APOLLO’S MUSE
Apollo’s Muse was a celebration which took place in the private Mayfair members’ club Bacchanalia.
‘Bacchanalia’ were large and decadent private feasts and parties, so we imagined Apollo and his muse Clio in attendance, alongside Bacchus, the god of wine, at a party fit to be written into myth and legend.
The bold shapes of the main typographic language supported whimsical, expressive sketch work which reimagined Apollo, Clio and Bacchus through loose, Expressionist-inspired mark-making. Liner columns of type were reminiscent of Greco-Roman numerals, and architecture. We added creative freedom again with hand-drawn type to add depth and layers to this profoundly abundant celebration.
Opulent finishes, Classical touches and intuitive sketch work capture hedonistic luxury at its finest
BEHIND APOLLO’S MUSE
Bacchanalia is a private members’ club in Mayfair, London. Created by renowned restaurateur Richard Caring, its elaborate Greco-Roman decor sparkles against burnished copper and bronze, low light, hand-painted murals and original artistry both Classical and Modern.
The private dining room is overseen by a statue of Greek god Apollo. Lavish marble floors and walls hold more statues.
Surrounded by both original, millenia-old Grecian statuary and modern art pieces from the likes of Damien Hirst, the brief was to straddle these art periods in one opulent, decadent, exuberant celebration. In a city which revels in grandeur and excess, the brief here was to whole-heartedly embrace this, with generosity and goodwill. Gold foil embossing and quotes from the Iliad, fabulous jewel-bright colours and expressionist sketch work all combined to create a completely singular bespoke look.
